Imaging of the pituitary gland with MRI

Pituitary Disease

The pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain behind the eyes. It is often referred to as the ‘master gland' due to the control it exerts over the rest of the glands in the body. As a result small disturbances in the pituitary can cause problems in multiple endocrine glands, resulting in marked changes in physiology.

Pituitary disorders are usually diagnosed through blood tests and/or specialised scans of the brain such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
